How Marugame Udon turned every bowl into a journey through Japan

TRIFFT built Marugame Club: an app, an Apple Wallet card and coupons,
where every visit earns a stamp from a place in Japan.

Marugame wanted loyalty that feels like a trip to Japan, not a points ledger.

Marugame Udon opened its first UK restaurant on Middlesex Street, London, in 2021. Guests come for udon made fresh in an open kitchen, so the loyalty program had to carry the same sense of craft and place.

Udon cut by hand in every kitchen. The loyalty program had to feel as made-to-order as the noodles.

Why Marugame chose TRIFFT

Marugame had outgrown its all-in-one platform. To build something more dynamic, it moved to best-of-breed tools, with TRIFFT running loyalty and the guest app.

  1. Loyalty that feels like Marugame

A fully branded app in Marugame’s red and cream, with its own voice and stamp artwork.

  2. A reason to return beyond points

A stamp journey through Japan, with rewards along the way. Every bowl moves a guest one stop further.

    A bowl of kake udon
  3. Room to grow

Moving to best-of-breed tools gave the team the freedom to build something new, rather than work around what one platform allowed.

The loyalty stack behind it

Marugame replaced one all-in-one system with a specialist for each job: Toast at the till, TRIFFT for the app and loyalty, and Klaviyo for email and SMS.

Klaviyo is TRIFFT’s strategic partner, and TRIFFT is a preferred loyalty solution for Klaviyo.

  1. What guests seeMarugame Club

The app, Apple Wallet card, coupons and rewards, all in Marugame’s brand.

  2. Loyalty platformTRIFFT

Runs stamps, levels and rewards, builds segments and recommends the next campaign.

  3. Email and SMSKlaviyo

Member segments sync in, and Marugame’s team sends from Klaviyo as usual.

  4. Point of saleToast

Toast runs the tills, and TRIFFT connects to it for every stamp and reward.

Marugame opened its first restaurant in Kakogawa in 2000. Every Marugame Club journey starts there.
